We are pleased to announce the call for proposals for the 37th annual MidAir Conference.
REMINDER! Best Paper winner will be awarded reimbursement up to the 2017 AIR Forum Registration cost. Registration receipt must be presented for reimbursement.
Best First Time Presenter will have the following year’s MidAIR registration fee waived. This call encourages all IR professionals, higher education faculty, and graduate students, both experienced and novice, to submit proposals to present at the conference via our online proposal system.
All proposals MUST be submitted via the internet by August 31st. The system is easy to use and will guide you through the entire process.

IPEDS Data and Benchmarking: Supporting Decision Making and Institutional Effectiveness
Wednesday, November 7, 8:30am – 12:00pm
The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and the Mid America Association for Institutional Research (MidAIR) are co-hosting a half-day IPEDS Workshop for data providers and users in conjunction with the MidAIR 2018 Annual Conference. Financial support for this workshop is provided by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) through a contract with RTI International.
This workshop stresses the importance of accuracy and consistency in data reported to IPEDS. Examples of real IPEDS data used in the public domain are incorporated, enabling participants to understand the role of governmental and non-governmental entities in IPEDS reporting. The workshop includes presentations, discussions, exercises, and demonstrations using IPEDS data tools and resources.
Note: Participants are required to bring a MAC or PC laptop with wireless capability and Microsoft Excel.
Data, Dashboards, and Decisions: Bridging Institutional Research and Assessment
Wednesday, November 7, 8:30am – 12:pm
Institutional Research and Assessment are often considered discrete functions requiring distinct skill sets, but both contribute to the same goal: the use of data to make better decisions. Utilizing assessment and IR skills together enables institutional effectiveness officers to better serve their colleagues’ data needs. During this workshop, participants will explore similarities and differences between institutional research and assessment and participate in activities designed to generate ideas about how to best support efforts to improve student learning. You will consider perspectives from a large public research university and a smaller college with varied learning venues, and reflect on how you can apply ideas generated to benefit your own institution. Data management and the use of Power BI to develop an institution-wide assessment dashboard will be highlights of this workshop.
Newcomers to Institutional Research Workshop
This popular workshop is designed for newcomers to IR – or anyone desiring a refresher! Each Institutional Research office is a unique entity shaped by an extensive assortment of internal and external forces. If you are new to IR and wondering what you’ve gotten yourself into, this PDO may provide some insight.
